CANTO was formed in 1992 when a Salvationist businessman recognised the need for opportunities to be given to those
struggling to get onto a career path, this meant working with those with a learning need, those who had been out
of work for a long time or ex-offenders. CANTO is designated as a non profit organisation with charitable intent.
The founder of CANTO was honoured in 2005 with an MBE for services to the community.
Over the years CANTO has offered an increased variety of activities to a wider range of individuals.
CANTO continues to work with those with some form of learning need or behavoural difficulty.
Learners have a wide range of learning difficulties & disabilities such as Autism, ADHD, Fragile X and Wills.
CANTO currently works within excess of 10 schools within Northamptonshire providing access to education and
activities for students who are unable to access mainstream education.
CANTO has a programme for individuals who are between the ages of 16-25, this is targeted at building up their
personal skills and building their skills through nationally recognised qualifications. A high percentage of
individuals on this programme move onto a succesful outcome, whether this be employment, college, supported work,
apprenticeship etc. In 2010 our positive progression rate was 73%.
Individuals may be able to secure funding for a longer period of time so that they can continue
to build for their independence and quality of life.
CANTO offer qualifications to all and currently cover, maths English, ICT, drama, music and cookery.
